Crowns

“Fissures” refer to the pits and groves on the chewing surfaces of teeth. Often these fissures are so narrow that the bristles of a toothbrush or streams of water cannot clean them effectively.
&nbsp;
Fissure Sealants are usually applied to the back teeth in order to seal off the pits and groves from the oral environment and thus protect these fissures from bacteria and ferment-able foods such sugar and starches.
&nbsp;
By applying Fissure Sealants it is possible top recent decay from starting deep within the fissures. The sealant used is a colorless, protective liquid which is carefully painted on to the tooth surface before being hardened using an ultraviolet light.
Applying Fissure Sealant is an extremely quick and straightforward procedure and takes only a few minutes per tooth.

Although Porcelain Inlays often have a more aesthetically pleasing result due to their natural tooth colour, Gold Inlays are gentler to the opposing teeth and require less of the tooth structure to be removed. Gold Inlays are also more durable than Porcelain Inlays.
&nbsp;
Gold Inlays are usually fitted over two appointments. During your first visit, we will prepare the tooth area and remove any decay before taking an impression of the tooth to send to the laboratory. A temporary inlay is then fitted to the tooth. On your second appointment we will remove the temporary inlay and fix your Gold Inlay.
&nbsp;
Gold inlays and crowns tend to be the longest lasting restorations in the mouth.

Gold inlays

Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to enhance your looks.
&nbsp;
Tooth whitening has become a popular cosmetic procedure, and one of the most commonly used bleaching agents is hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide works by penetrating the tooth enamel and breaking down the stains inside the tooth, leaving behind a brighter and whiter smile. Hydrogen peroxide is available in various concentrations. As dentists, we are allowed to use upto 6% hydrogen peroxide. Over-the-counter whitening products that contain hydrogen peroxide typically have lower concentrations, usually about 0.1%. 6% hydrogen peroxide will have a noticeable effect lightening the shade of your teeth.
&nbsp;
I use a tray system with the bleaching being done at home by wearing the trays for 20-30 minutes 2 times per day. It will usually take 5-10 days to achieve the result you want. I guarantee that your teeth will become lighter using the home bleaching technique.
&nbsp;
It&#8217;s important to note that while hydrogen peroxide is generally considered safe for tooth whitening, it can cause sensitivity and irritation if used improperly. It&#8217;s essential to follow instructions carefully and have at least 1 review appointment.

Teeth Whitening

Due to their natural tooth colouring, Porcelain Inlays often have a more aesthetically pleasing result than Gold Inlays. Although Porcelain Inlays are themselves very resistant to wear, they can cause more wear on opposing teeth than Gold Inlays. This is particularly relevant if a patient is prone to grinding their teeth.
&nbsp;
Porcelain Inlays are fitted over two appointments. The first appointment requires the tooth area to be prepared and any decay removed.
&nbsp;
An impression of the tooth is then taken and sent to the laboratory before a temporary inlay is fitted. During your second visit the temporary inlay is removed, and your Porcelain Inlay bonded or cemented into place.

Porcelain inlays

Endodontics, more commonly referred to as Root Canal treatment, is a procedure carried out to treat the nerve or pulp of a tooth when it has become infected or inflamed.
&nbsp;
A common misconception among patients is that Root Canal treatment is a painful procedure. In fact, it should be no more painful or unpleasant than having a filling done when in the hands of a properly trained dentist.
&nbsp;
Usually, Root Canal treatment takes place over the course of two appointments. Firstly, any infected or inflamed pulp is removed before the root canal is flushed using an anti-bacterial solution to remove debris.
&nbsp;
Once the canals have been flushed, they are filled and sealed with a Composite Filling or Crown to restore the tooth back to its original shape and function.
&nbsp;
It is advised that patients take extra care directly following Root Canal Treatment as the area can still be sensitive. Biting too hard can cause discomfort to the treated area so we recommend that patients eat carefully for a few days afterwards.

We now have a visiting specialist in root canal treatment to address the more complicated cases.

Here at the Dental practice we have two Hygienists, Libby and Faye, who help to carry through the preventative philosophy of the practice.

This practice believes strongly in educating each and every patient about how best to look after their teeth – and this starts as early as possible. Children are a real focus. Libby and Faye and Steph concentrate on teaching youngsters about how important it is to look after their teeth right now, as well as how they should do it, so that they are able to maintain a great smile all the way through their lives.

The Hygiene Surgery is equipped to the same high standard as our dentists’ surgeries. The same technology-focused approach is taken throughout the practice.

Appointments are usually 30 minutes.

A Hygienist appointment is available with Libby or Faye from Monday to Thursday.

Hygienist

If you&#8217;re missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge might be the solution you need. A dental bridge is a type of dental restoration that can help fill the gap between your teeth and restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

One of the biggest advantages of dental bridges is their ability to prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position. This can help maintain the natural alignment of your teeth and prevent further dental problems.

Bridges are used to create a complete smile as well as restoring function and when looked after should last between 10 and 15 years on average. Good oral hygiene is required as cleaning underneath Bridges can be more difficult.

Bridges can risk damage to the abutment teeth and over the past 20 years have become less popular due to implant treatment becoming more mainstream. This is not to say that there is no place for bridges in modern dentistry. Stephen will discuss all the options available and the pros and cons of each form of treatment.

It is necessary to prepare the abutment prior to fitting a Bridge and as such the treatment is split into at least two appointments depending on the amount of reduction required to fit the Bridge.

Stephen’s approach is a gentle one as he looks to re-assure even the most scared of kids who often see a visit to have their teeth checked a traumatic one. Our primary goal is the well-being of your children and that they have a smile to be happy about for the rest of their lives.

Prior to your visit, we would advise that you refrained from using some words that kids may find scarier than others, such as ‘needle’, ‘drill’, ‘pull’ and &#8216;being brave&#8217; etc. These could create un-necessary stress for the little ones, we like to use buttered versions at our practice that have the same message but are less scary to the child.

<h2>When should a child first visit a dentist?</h2>
It is recommended by the <a title="Childrens Teeth Care" href="http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/dentalhealth/Pages/Careofkidsteeth.aspx">NHS</a> that your child should have at least one check up by the age of 2. However there are a number of benefits for any early visit to the dentists, these include early identification of any health issues and they will become more familiar and comfortable with the surroundings which will increase their chances of routinely having check ups and preventative treatment throughout their lives.
